Peekafish
Peekafish privacy policy
This policy covers the Peekafish app for iOS and Android. The short version: Peekafish collects no data — unless you switch on the optional buddy features; then the app stores exactly what the section "Optional buddy features" lists, and nothing else. The long version follows — in plain language, readable in two minutes.
This website (peekafish.com) sets no cookies, uses no analytics and loads nothing from third parties; the font and every picture and video are served from this site.

2. What Peekafish is
Peekafish is a timing-skill fishing game: the pond spins, the fish open their mouths, and a tap at the right moment lands a catch. It is rated 13+ on the App Store (Games › Casual) and declared for ages 13 and over on Google Play; the terms set a minimum age of 13. There is no account and no age question in the app. No ads, no chat, no accounts.
3. What data we collect: none — unless the buddy features are switched on
Peekafish does not collect, store or transmit any personal data. There is no user account and no sign-in, no analytics or statistics tools, no advertising networks or ad SDKs, no chat and no free-text content that others could see, and no access to location, contacts, camera, microphone or photos. The app does not ask for tracking permission and does not read device identifiers.
Everything the game needs is inside the app itself. It works fully without an internet connection; even leaderboards such as the Reef League, the daily pond or Splash Royale are computed on the device against named computer rivals. Nothing is sent to us while the buddy features are off; what is stored when they are on is described in that section.
4. What stays on the device
So that the game continues where it left off, Peekafish stores the following only locally on the device:
- the nickname and avatar you choose
- game progress: levels, stars, grades, gems, fish caught, the aquarium and its layout, Boop’s book, the Sea Album, the Tide Streak
- up to four fisher cards, so everyone on one device keeps their own pond
- settings such as sound, music, tips, Normal or Pro and Quiet hours
- optional reminders: at most one a day, and only if you switch them on — they are scheduled on the device, no server is involved; the app derives the hour from your own play times, on the device
This data does not leave the device and does not go to any cloud storage of ours. Whether the operating system includes app data in the device’s iCloud or Google backup is governed by the device settings and by Apple’s or Google’s privacy policy.
5. Optional buddy features — only if you switch them on
On request, Peekafish can share leaderboards, exchange buddy codes, play code duels, send small gem gifts between buddies, let buddies and other fishers look at a read-only picture of your aquarium, and form crews of five that count the week’s catches together. These features are off by default. You switch them on under Shop → Gems tab → Privacy, after the app has explained in plain words what will then be stored. While the switch is off, not a single byte leaves the device for these features.
When the switch is on, the app stores the following in a database operated on our behalf:
- a random 5-letter buddy code the app makes up — it has nothing to do with you, the device or the store account
- the avatar (an emoji) — the nickname is never sent
- scores: best catch, level reached, daily-pond result, results of code duels, league cups
- your aquarium’s layout for visiting: the ids and positions of your decorations and the tank’s terrain (no text, no images, no names), stored under a separate random id with an expiry of 90 days from the last change
- timestamps of when an entry was written
- for gifts, buddy rewards and waves: the code and avatar of the sender — a wave is one preset reaction, never free text
- for crews: one crew row under a random crew id the app makes up, with the member codes and each member’s catch count for the week — kept 90 days from the last change
Nothing else. No real name, no e-mail address, no phone number, no contacts, no photos, no location, no device identifier, no age, no purchases and no typed text — Peekafish has none. Other players never see your nickname: leaderboards store no name, and the app shows every other fisher under a sea-name it invents. Someone who knows your buddy code because you passed it on sees your avatar and your scores. Buddies, and any fisher who sees you on the Everyone board, can open a read-only picture of your aquarium — always under a sea-name. There is no chat and no messaging; reactions are preset.
Where: the database is Google Cloud Firestore in the Frankfurt am Main region (Germany), run in a project of ours; Google processes the data as our processor under the Firebase data-processing terms. Transfer is encrypted (TLS). Like any server, Google’s infrastructure sees the device’s IP address while answering a request; we do not receive or store it.
How long: daily-pond and code-duel entries carry an expiry of 8 days; the aquarium row and the crew row expire 90 days after they were last changed. After that the app no longer reads them and removes them the next time it is online. Profile, gifts and buddy rewards stay until they are deleted in the app or overwritten by your next score.
Deleting: the Privacy card in the Shop’s Gems tab has "Wipe my online data". It removes the profile, gifts, buddy rewards, the aquarium row and your entry in the crew row for this code (leaving a crew removes it too), takes you out of the all-time leaderboard and today’s daily pond, and switches sharing off again. Switching off alone stops every transfer immediately. We also delete on request by e-mail to the address below — the buddy code is all we need.
Legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), given on the device and withdrawable at any time by switching off or wiping.
6. Deleting your data
There is no user account and no saved game on a server of ours — nothing you would need to cancel or have deleted by us. Everything Peekafish stores lives on the device and can be deleted there:
- In the app: the settings have a "Start over" button (in the app: "Reset all progress", then the "Start over?" dialog) that erases all game data on the device; the fisher screen can remove individual fisher cards.
- Uninstalling the app removes all game data completely as well.
- If you have switched on the optional buddy features, "Wipe my online data" on the Privacy card in the Shop deletes the entries for this buddy code — see that section.
A backup made by the operating system (iCloud or Google) may contain app data; it is managed through the device settings, not by us.
7. Purchases in the Shop
Peekafish is free, and everything in the game can be earned by fishing. In addition, the Shop’s Gems tab sells gem packs, one-time sets, the gem jar, the month’s Tide set and the Gold Tide Pass. Every price is shown in your store’s currency before you buy, every purchase asks for a plain "Buy for …" confirmation, purchased gems never expire, and no product has random content.
Payment is handled by the respective store: Apple via the App Store, Google via Google Play. We receive no payment details, no names and no addresses. To match purchases to the app, Peekafish uses the RevenueCat SDK. It receives the store’s purchase receipt and a randomly generated, anonymous app user id that is linked neither to a person nor to a device identifier. RevenueCat receives no personal data; the SDK serves purchase processing only, not analytics or advertising.
Content already bought can be unlocked again via "Restore purchases" in the Gems tab, for example after changing devices. Apple’s Ask to Buy and purchase approval in Google Family Link work in addition on devices that use them.
8. Age
Peekafish is rated 13+ and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13; while the buddy features are off we collect none at all. If you believe a child under 13 has switched on the buddy features, write to the address below with the buddy code and we delete that code’s data.
9. Third parties involved in the app
Only four companies come into contact with the app, and only for distribution, purchase processing and the optional buddy features. Their own privacy policies apply to their processing:
- Apple (App Store, in-app purchases) https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
- Google (Google Play, in-app purchases) https://policies.google.com/privacy
- RevenueCat (purchase-processing SDK) https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy/
- Google Firebase / Google Cloud (database in Frankfurt for the optional buddy features) https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
What data the stores process when the app is downloaded (such as your store account) is outside our control and is described in the linked policies.
10. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR) and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Austria that is the Datenschutzbehörde. While the buddy features are off we hold no data about you and can only answer a request with: there is nothing on file. If they are on, tell us the buddy code and we can provide or delete it — the wipe button in the app is the quicker way. Do write to us anyway if you have questions.
11. Changes
We update this policy when the app changes. The current version is always available at this address; the date at the top shows when it was last updated.
